The Dillon Snowkite Open (DSO) is one of the major stops on the North American snowkite Tour (NAST). At our event you will collect points that will accumulate towards the finals, (Destination to be determined) The DSO will consist of 4 days of competition and freeriding. Including a regatta style racing format, Long distance (winduro),and freestyle / free ride sessions and a demo / trainer kite day. There will be a series with 3 fleet races in a regatta format (races will be scheduled for the most consistent forecasted wind). Plus a long distance race to test the competitors endurance and all out speed. Leaving plenty of time to just let loose and do a little freestyle!
The Flat out Freestyle and freeride will be a judged event by a select unknown few of your peers and hopefully have shadowbox input, but to be determined. (Shadowbox is a device each kiter has that records everything they do. How fast they go, how High they jump, how much hang time, and how many spins for example.) There will be no Rails but possibility some kickers, hence the name “flat out” . This portion of the event will take place form the start of the event on Thursday to the end of the Event on Sunday. Kiters will be judge whenever they ride and you do not have to be present for all days, but must ride at least once and be registered in the event. As a freestyle / freeride competitor you are also not obligated to race, but we welcome everyone to participate as long as they check in with the race committee. Everyone who registers will automatically be entered in this event. So every kiter will receive some points towards the finals, no mater if they place or not. This is a point gathering event towards the freestyle championship.
The winduro is scheduled for Thursday afternoon for early travelers and will be approximately 10 miles for the pro division. There will be a shortened course for women and the Amateurs. No points toward the championship will be awarded in this event.
Friday and Saturday will be open to the Regatta 3 race series. The courses will set with windward and Leeward marks and on average may take 15-25 minutes each. Sunday will be kept as a backup race day if there is not enough wind the previous days. These races will be point gathering towards the racing championship.
Sunday will be kept open. The goal will be to have day set aside for kite companies and sponsors to Demo gear to consumers, trainer kite demos and introduce new people to our sport.
Trophies (nice ones) will be given out for 1st-3rd place in all divisions and categories.
All competitors will receive an event shirt and other swag. (only the first 50 to register will get them)
A hot lunch and beverages will be provided for registrants on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Sponsored Beer will be also available after kiting each day.
